The Union News Sheriff's deputies
are looking for two prostitutes who allegedly met with a Lake of
the Pines man, stole his money, pepper-sprayed him and beat him
with a billy club after he said he wouldn't use a condom.
Nevada County Sheriff Keith Royal said the man called law
enforcement Saturday evening to report the incident.
The man told police he used an Internet escort service to locate
a prostitute, "Summer," and arranged to meet her at his home in
Lake of the Pines, Royal said.
The prostitute showed up Saturday evening with another woman,
"Vaughn," who waited in the car.
The man allegedly handed over $270 to Summer. She threw a condom
on his bed, he said, and he told her he didn't use them.
"I guess you can leave, then," he told the prostitute, Royal
said.
She left with his money.
"He told her he would pay for gas money, but he wanted his money
back," Royal said.
As he chased her and demanded his $270, she pepper-sprayed him,
he said.
Then the woman known as Vaughn got out of the car,
pepper-sprayed him again and hit him several times with a billy
club, Royal said.
The man was not treated for any injuries, he said.
Investigators are looking for a Chevrolet Tahoe the women were
driving. Royal said he did not know whether the women are local
or live out of the area.
If the women are found, the woman who used the billy club would
be arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, Royal
said.
"Summer," he said, would most likely be facing an arrest on
suspicion of prostitution.
Royal said the man has not been arrested for solicitation of
prostitution, although the investigation is ongoing.
Tracking the frequency of prostitution in Nevada County is not
possible, Royal said, because the crimes of prostitution and
solicitation of prostitution - both misdemeanors - are hardly
reported.
"No one comes forward unless something like this happens," Royal
said.
